Mostar

A city which "wakes up with light for centuries"

The city of Mostar is the cultural, political and financial centre of Herzegovina. Already with the first encounter with this beautiful city, you will feel its diversity which makes it so special. Its charm rests in its streets interwoven with the spirit of many different civilizations which have dwelled here, the spirit felt in its numerous young and hospitable people and its architecture. This university centre of the region has always been and has remained the city of bridges and the city of youth.

Ivo Andric, world famous Nobel Prize winner once wrote: "When you spend a night in Mostar, it is not the sound that wakes you up in the morning, but - the light". Mostar is the city of flowers and greenery, famous for its blossom celebrated so many times by poets and poems, flowering sometimes as early as February and creating a strikingly beautiful and dreamy image that can offer only inspiration. Mostar has a very particular and pleasant Mediterranean climate that can be rarely found elsewhere. It lies at a distance of only 60 km from the Adriatic Sea.

In the city itself and in its vicinity there are many unique locations with historical and cultural treasures the most prominent being the Old Bridge, made of stone and dating back to the Middle Ages, which joins the left and the right bank of the Herzegovinian pearl - the river Neretva. There is some historical evidence testifying to the fact that life has continued in this region since pre-historic times. The oldest written document mentioning Mostar dates back to the 15th century.

As a city, Mostar has a complete urban infrastructure, road and railway transport and a modern airport. A number of beautiful parks, sports terrains, museums, galleries and clubs make it an ideal place for living offering people positive excitement that stays in their memory for long time.

Medjugorje

Place of prayer and peace

Medjugorje is a Marian shrine and a world-famous pilgrimage site often times compared to Lourdes and Fatima. Some 20 million pilgrims have visited Medjugorje in the first 20 years and each year more and more people come testifying that it is precisely here, in the heart of Herzegovina, that they have finally found peace and faith.

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the six children for the first time on June 24, 1981. According to the unanimous testimony of the seers, Virgin Mary conveys through them to all believers messages of peace, love, faith, fasting, prayer and promises. Each pilgrim visits the parochial Church of St. Jacob, located in the centre of the town, the Hill of Apparition in Bijakovici - the place where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared for the first time, the Hill of Cross where a huge cross was erected in 1993, as well! as St. Francis' Garden, Mother's Village and Cenacolo Community.

Medjugorje is the largest tourist and pilgrimage site in Bosnia and Herzegovina and offers a variety of different elements making it also the richest centre in the region. Medjugorje is a standing witness that the differences in prayer may become a tremendous force which can change people and the world.

That makes it a very special, tolerant and harmonious place whose inhabitants are very welcoming and courteous. Medjugorje is an attractive location for both the ordinary tourists and the casual passers-by wanting to assure themselves of the new possibilities life can offer and as such is a unique place in this part of Europe.

Neum

Blue oasis

Neum is a city, a tourist settlement and the only municipal centre on the Adriatic coast located on the rugged coastal area along the main road between Dubrovnik (70 km) and Makarska (80 km).

The Mediterranean climate with plenty of sunny days during the year makes it an attractive tourist destination throughout the year. Fresh sea air, coastal walks, night time entertainment and water sports will make a visit to Neum a memorable experience. The authentic Herzegovinian cuisine and different seafood, fish, crab and shellfish specialties make up only a small portion of the rich gastronomic offer found in the hotels ("Sunce","Neum", "Zenit", "Stella") as well as in the other family hotels and motels. The hinterland of Neum, with plenty of olive plantations and vineyards, is an ideal place for those who enjoy agro-tourism.

The traditional Croatian music festival "Ethno festival Neum" takes place every summer in the second half of August, in Neum. There is a modern sport centre in Neum, suitable for football teams training preparations in the winter period. The Museum/Gallery with numerous paintings is also very active in Neum.
